Stanger Farm looking to the Lorton Valley

Driving down the lane to our farm you are immediately struck by the magnificent view of Whiteside, Hobcarton and Grassmoor, and there in front of you, nestling peacefully beside the river Cocker in the lovely Vale of Lorton is the sleepy hamlet of Stanger, once a Viking outpost but now a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of today’s world.

There is a pub just a mile up the road and all the amenities and shops you could require in Cockermouth just two miles away. Within reach locally are many fine eating establishments that cater for all pockets, including a nationally acclaimed Vegetarian Restaurant (and ones that serve Fell Bred meat!!!). In fact we are ideally placed for getting around the whole of the north-western Lakes as Keswick, Buttermere and the Solway Coast are all just 15 minutes away by car.

Stable Cottage is a barn conversion adjoining the farmhouse on our small lakeland farm and organic market garden. The living accommodation is on the first floor to take advantage of the view across open fields and the river. A little stream runs past the door to provide hours of contemplative enjoyment at the abundant wildlife there-in, and for the more sporting visitor we have game fishing on site on our own stretch of the river Cocker, while course and sea fishing are available locally.
